Can someone get through security with a gift card?

A friend of mine keeps asking me to steal one for him. I used to lift from this place all the time. But I never tried to steal a gift card. From what I remember when I used to steal there it was a piece of cardboard type of gift card. Would it get picked up? I only have a magnetic detacher no RF one
