I just saw this video of a man beating a cat. Yes, beating the cat with a belt. Dead.

I feel sad about the cat. But I also realize that the cat is dead and can't feel anything and that feeling sad about the cat won't change anything. I have to realize that it's over. Animals die from beatings and pets die from beatings. It's sad but also a part of life.

Then I started wondering. Why do I still feel bad about the cat, even though it's dead and can't feel anything about the situation. I feel sad about it, as if I'm worried about the cat. But the cat is dead, so why should I feel bad about it?

That led me to another question. Do we really care about the well-being of other living beings? Do we care about the happiness or the pain of other creatures? Or do we just not want to see them suffer because it makes us uncomfortable. It doesn't make sense for me to feel bad about the cat because it's dead. But it does make sense for me to feel bad about myself having to watch that situation.

Maybe we just care about the well-being of others because we don't want to be in a situation where we have to feel bad about ourselves. We don't care about the well-being of others but we care about our own well-being. That's why we feel bad when we see other living beings suffer. We care about ourselves and we don't want to be in a situation where we see suffering.

So, our empathy towards other living beings is just us being selfish?
