i'm a journalist from the UK, what firearm would you recommend?

i know this might sound like a trap but can people please suggest a weapon that i should get? i've shot only bb guns and .22 rifles and i'm looking to get a gun this year, i have no idea where to start. please no AR-15s. what i'm looking for is something that 1. i'm allowed to get and 2. is easily available for purchase. that's all, cheers!
