The best waifu is a lie

When I got into anime I really enjoyed it. But as much as I did, there was always this really annoying thing about anime that was really hard to ignore. That thing was the concept of a waifu.

I didn’t know what to think of it at first. I found out that it basically meant that a fictional character in an anime was your spouse. It can be a wife or a husband, so you can be a husband as well in this situation. But most of the time when people talk about their waifus, they’re usually dudes so I’m gonna use the wife example.

I personally don’t get it. If I were to find a fictional character so good that I would want to marry them, I would also want them to be real. I’m not saying that having a spouse in real life is important, but if you want a fictional character to be your spouse, wouldn’t you want them to be in real life as well? Because otherwise you wouldn’t really have a spouse, right?

I now know that you can just like fictional characters, that’s okay. I also like fictional characters a lot. You can also daydream about being in a relationship with a fictional character because that’s also okay. I daydream about being in a relationship with a fictional character every time I’m bored out of my mind. It’s okay to like fictional characters, as long as they don’t replace your real life relationships.

I have a problem with the concept of waifus because I genuinely think that they’re just a way to avoid reality. Instead of going outside and talking to real people you can just stay inside and be with your virtual spouse. And that’s not okay. If you’re gonna be with someone you like, make sure that they are real and you can see them in person. I know that in some cases, usually if you live in a third world country, it can be extremely hard to find someone to be with. But in that case, you should try your best to go out and walk around and even if it’s really hard it’s also really rewarding when you do find someone.

And if you find someone in real life and you want to be with them, don’t go and tell them „Hey can you be my spouse because my virtual spouse isn’t real”. Don’t do that. That’s disrespectful towards the people around you. I know that you might think that you don’t need people in real life, but trust me, you need them. People have feelings and we don’t want to hurt you or insult you or anything, but come on.

In conclusion, waifus are a lie and if you say that they’re your spouse you’re probably lying yourself. It’s okay to like them, but just don’t go too far with it.
