I've been lurking in this sub since 2019 but finally made an account yesterday. I first learned about AGI in 2015 from a reposted article from I think either wired or vice, that was talking about the google deepmind AI that was able to play Go and beat the world champion Go player.

I didn't really think anything of it, other than the fact that, "huh, AI is neat, maybe it'll help humanity or something." But then in 2019 I stumbled upon this sub while browsing through the different subs one day, and I started reading the posts here and I learned a lot, thanks to everyone here. I learned about Kurzweil and his law of accelerating returns, I learned about the current rate of progress in AI development, I learned about AI alignment and the risks associated with the development of AGI.

And I have to say, I'm really excited. I'm 22 now, and I know that no one can accurately predict the future, but I'm optimistic that I will get to experience AGI in my lifetime. I'm excited for the technologies that will come out of AGI. I think it will be fantastic once the world is automated and everyone will receive a UBI and won't have to work anymore, assuming the AGI is aligned and doesn't decide to kill everyone lol.

Anyway, thanks everyone in this sub, I've learned so much from the posts here, and I'm really excited to (hopefully) live long enough to see the fruits of AGI.
