I consider myself lucky to be alive at this point

This occurred when I was 17 and my brother was 15. We were on summer vacation in Norway and were staying at my grandparents cabin. We only stayed there for a week, but we had to mow the lawn and clean the cabin before we left. So in the morning we started by mowing the lawn. It was a warm day so we were both short sleeved and wearing shorts. We even had a small radio with us to make the work more enjoyable. After cutting the lawn we went inside to get something to eat before we cleaned the cabin.

While we were eating, we heard some "noice" from outside. We were in the livingroom and it sounded like someone was walking up towards the house. The doors were unlocked because we were going to stay there for the whole week. But it sounded like someone was walking up towards the house. So my brother looked out the window closest to him and I looked out the window closest to me. At this point we were still wondering who it could be. Could it be someone selling something, could it be someone from the neighborhood, could it be a friend or family member coming to visit us. But as soon as we looked out the window we saw a man walking towards the house. He was tall, muscular and with short black hair. When he saw us looking at him he waved at us for us to come outside. I kind of felt a weird feeling seeing him. He was not anyone I knew from the neighborhood or any family friend. But we thought it would be rude to not greet him so we went outside.

We were standing in front of him and he greeted us with a casual "hej" (a casual hello in Swedish/Norwegian). We answered and he introduced himself as "Lars" and said he had recently moved into the neighborhood. He asked how long we had lived there and how we liked it. It felt kind of weird that this stranger suddenly asked us questions about how long we have lived there when he himself just moved in. I asked him if he had recently moved in and he said "yes". So I joked "so how long have you lived here then?" A couple of weeks or something like that right? He did not seem amused at my joke. So I turned the question back to him and asked how long he had lived there. He said he recently moved in and he liked it so far. Of course he liked it at this point he had barely lived there. But he said he wanted to get to know his neighbors better. My brother and I kind of just looked at each other and did not say anything. He was just standing there looking at us. My brother finally broke the silence and asked Lars if he wanted to come in and have a cup of coffee or a glass of lemonade with us. Lars answered by saying he would rather have a beer if that was okay. My brother and I looked at each other and I said we were minors and that it was not really okay to drink alcohol at our age. He said he understood but could he at least have a glass of wine? We said no and Lars said okay. Then he asked if he could borrow a lighter from us because he had lost his lighter. He said he could give it back to us later. My brother went inside to get a lighter.

While my brother was inside Lars started acting really weird. He started walking around the house and looking at it. Like he was planning to burgle us or something. I asked him what he was doing and he said he just wanted to see the house. I said okay but he has to stop. He stopped and just looked at me. I felt really uncomfortable and he just kept looking at me. He looked at me in a lustful manner. I could kind of tell that he was planning something. Suddenly my brother came out with a lighter and gave it to Lars. Lars said thank you and started to walk away. While he was walking away he looked back at us over his shoulder and waved at us to come with him. We did not answer and he just kept on walking. We went inside to clean the cabin.

We started by cleaning upstairs. After a while my brother went outside to get something he had forgotten. But before he went outside he looked out the window and said "good, he is gone". After he went outside I heard him scream. So I ran down the stairs and outside. Lars was standing in our livingroom and he had let himself in. He just said hi and that he wanted to hang out. I asked him how he got in and he said the door was unlocked. So I went over to the door and saw that it was wide open. We locked all the doors and windows before we went outside. So at this point I was sure that he had a key or that he had broken in. He just looked at us with a weird smile on his face. He said we did not have to be frightened and that he would not hurt us. So I asked him if he would mind leaving because we wanted to be alone. He said he would not leave. He said we should be happy to have him as a friend. He said he had been watching us and that he liked us. My brother asked him what he meant by that. He just said that he really liked us and that we were his friends now. My brother repeated the question but Lars just said he would not leave and that we should let him stay.

At this point we were really scared and we did not know what to do. Suddenly Lars charged at us and tried to grab us. I tried to defend myself but he was stronger than me. He held me down on the couch and tried to kiss me. I tried to kick him but he was to strong. But at this point my brother had gotten up from the floor and was over by the window. He smashed the window and jumped out of it. Lars heard the smashing sound and got up from the couch. He saw my brother running away and he started running towards him. I also got up from the couch ran towards the broken window and jumped out of it. I landed on my feet and started running as fast as I could towards my brother. I did not see Lars behind me but I could hear him. My brother and I were running as fast as we could when my brother grabbed me and pulled me into the forest. We ran through the forest and stopped at a clearing. My brother asked if Lars was behind us and I said yes. Lars was running towards us and I could hear the sound from his feet and his heavy breathing. My brother looked at me and I at him. My brother started crying and said we had to get away. I started crying to.

My brother grabbed me and pulled me towards him. He said we had to get away. We were still standing in the clearing. But my brother looked around and saw a small hole in the ground. He pulled me towards it and we fell into it. We were hiding in the hole and Lars came running up to us. But he could not see us. He was standing right above us looking around and saying "where are you?". We did not say anything and he kept on looking. After a while he gave up and left. My brother and I fell silent and just cried. We cried for a long time. My brother then looked at me and said we had to get out. He helped me up and we slowly started walking away from the clearing. We walked away and after a while we saw a house. We ran towards it and started knocking on the door. A man answered the door and we told him what happened. He let us into his house and called the police. We stayed at his house for a while before the police finally showed up. They came and we told them what happened. The police were also very surprised that Lars could just let himself in. So the police went to the cabin and searched for Lars. But he was not there. They never found Lars and they never found out who he was. But what really shocked me was that the police said the front door was not unlocked. It was actually locked.

They never found out how Lars got in or who he was. But I am just happy that we got away from him and that nothing worse happened. We never stayed at that cabin again. But sometimes I wonder what would have happened if we had not gotten away.
