Throwaway account.

This is how it all started. My(35m) wife(34f) and I have been together for 10 years. We’ve been married for 7 years.
Her best friend from college, Candace(33f) is a couple of months pregnant. Candace and her husband had a hard time having their first child together. I think Candace had 3 or 4 miscarriages in two years before their first success. Her husband is 48, and Candace always wanted to have multiple children. To save time and money, Candace and her husband decided to bank her eggs after they got pregnant last time.
Last week, my wife approached me with an odd request after Candace had a conversation with her. Candace offered my wife an egg. She said that she was too old to have more children and that she couldn’t imagine using someone else’s eggs. I hesitated at first. It was a lot to take in. I’ve always wanted to be a dad, but I think that it’s every man’s hope that their children would share a bit of their DNA. I still had second thoughts when my wife told me that she wanted to be a mother badly.
Candace is 6 months along with her first child. We accepted her offer and started preparing our bodies for the ordeal. It’s been 18 months. My wife is still unable to conceive with Candace’s eggs. We have tried IUI, IVF, and AI. None of them worked. I went to get my sperm tested just to make sure that I wasn’t the problem. The tests indicated that there was a decline in my sperm count, but not enough to prevent from conception. We couldn’t find any reason why the process kept failing until we tested my wife’s Fallopian tubes last month. It turned out that my wife’s Fallopian tubes were blocked. The doctor said that she was probably born with the condition and would have never become pregnant naturally. At that point, I convinced my wife to give up the idea. Candace got upset. She said that she did it for my wife, not me. Candace wanted her children to grow up with the children my wife would eventually have. Candace offered to pay for my wife’s Tubal Ligation surgery, and my wife agreed.
It didn’t work. My wife is still unable to conceive. She’s 34. The last failed attempt crushed her spirits, and she complained about the side effects of the drugs that she had to take.
Candace offered to be a surrogate mother last week. At first, I was against it. Candace was still breast feeding, and her son is still 6 months old.
My wife’s resolve crumbled when Candace, her best friend, offered to be a surrogate mother for her. I relented. Candace was a surrogate mother for both children. Those are not my children, and a part of me hates myself for allowing this entire ruse to happen because I can’t afford to lose my marriage. I’m too afraid to speak up.
