I dressed up as a witch hunter for Halloween

So this woman I follow on TikTok definitely a right winger. I'm a lefty and also wiccan. She posted a video of herself and her husband at a Halloween party. She's dressed as a witch, him as a witch hunter. The comments were all part of the "Witches versus patriarchy" trend. I know it's a joke and I don't think I was actually being targeted, but I felt like I'd been punched in the gut.

What's your take on the witches versus patriarchy trend?

I'm going to assume that the people participating in the joke are simply pretending to be witches and have no actual connection to witchcraft or paganism.

While I'm not mad at someone I don't even know for being political, I feel like this trend is proof that people don't take witches seriously. It reduces the real practice of witchcraft and paganism to "here's a fun little aesthetic for you to get off of".

It perpetuates misinformation. They're not actually witches, they have no idea what witchcraft is actually about and they're so confident in their own ability to speak over someone else.

I also find it gross that they're using witchcraft to mock feminism. It's really shitty to make fun of women who actually practice witchcraft, especially since a lot of women who don't practice witchcraft use it as a way of connecting with their own femininity.

I personally am somewhere between upset and ambivalent. I don't care enough to get angry and I think this trend will die down soon enough.
