For context, I must first explain my previous situation. I was a 22 year old who had just been kicked out of my mothers house, due to our very stressed relationship. I had no place to go, and knew I couldn't be on the streets at all. I just couldn't. My ex boyfriend, who I had still remained friends with, offered to let me move in with him. I knew his mom was less than happy with me, due to our split and the amount of time we spent together. But, she allowed me to stay for 3 months, and I was very thankful for that. She made it VERY clear that if we did anything even close to romantic, I was out. Even after being split up for over a year and a half, she still hated me for it. She became very conservative, and demanded we not do anything "of the devil" in her house. I got it, but it gave me that feeling of being watched, you know?

There's a small lake directly behind their house. Its not a full blown lake, but like a man-made lake for fishing and boating. It had snowed pretty badly the night before, so the main road where their house is located was plowed, but the road directly by the lake was not. I imagine because it wasn't often used, and the plows had much more important roads to take care of.

So, I was doing the dishes that morning, it was probably around 9am or so, and my mom rushed into the kitchen. She told me to stop what I was doing, and to go to the living room. I did as she said, I was confused, but she seemed to want me to go quickly. As I walked to the living room, I saw a man walking slowly down the street, kind of walking down the middle, due to the snow. I looked at my mom, who looked at the man, then back to me like "do not go near that man".

The man finally reached their house, and his eyes locked onto my mom. He walked at a slow pace, but with purpose, if that makes sense. He came up to the front door, and with a friendly smile, knocked on the door. He knocked a couple of times, my mom told him through the door "I'm busy, I can't answer the door." He was slightly hesitant, then gave a thumbs up. My mom didn't move, she was frozen in place. When she finally did, she went to the nearest window, and closed all the blinds on that side of the house. I told her "ma'am, why did you do that". She looked at me with this "I'm protecting you" face.

I went to the living room, feeling like I wasn't a part of anything going on there, since clearly she didn't want to answer him. I just remember shaking. Like, my whole body was trembling. I didn't know what to do.
The man went on down the street, and after a while went to the house next door to them. They were a little more nice to him, since they weren't my moms people. I think they even gave him hot chocolate to warm up, because he was clearly walking in the snow.

About 6 months later, my mom was listening to the radio. It was a story about some serial killer who had been caught. One of the top news stories, because he was from their town. She got a weird look on her face, and asked me if I remembered when I saw that man walking down the street. I said of course, I would never forget that.

My mom started to tremble, and told me that the man I saw, was the man who had just been caught. She pulled out the newspaper, and shown me a picture of him. I couldn't believe it, it WAS him. The man I told my mom to not answer the door to, was a serial killer.

It all made sense at that point, why she didn't want to answer the door. He had this extremely friendly face, and knew how to get to people. He was a good manipulator, and knew how to take advantage of people. My mom knew this because she grew up with him. Yes, the serial killer grew up with my mom. My mom knew of him, and knew what he was like. I didn't know of him, and had no idea.

His name is Israel Keyes. Its very probable that you've heard of him, because he was a known serial killer. He went around the country, and burned, killed, and did his thing. But, that day, I almost let him into my house.
