I'm so exhausted with having to defend my career choice to parents when they say the school won't help a student that is clearly in need of special education services.

I teach in a primary school. Over the past few years we've had parents reach out to teachers saying that they feel we aren't doing enough to support their child with diagnosed needs. As a primary teacher you have 30 kids in your class at a time, I can't give individualised attention to each student in my class, as much as I would like to. It is impossible to cater to the needs of each student, and this is where special education services comes into play. I've had parents ask me why I am not giving their child extra help, one on one time, getting them extra resources, giving extra attention- when I tell them that I'm sorry I can't give that kind of time and attention to just one student, they feel that I am being neglectful and that I'm blaming the student for not wanting to put in the effort. I've had multiple parents say that they feel teachers are being paid to cater to the needs of all students, not just the average ones, and they feel that some of us are lazy when we aren't doing that. I tell them that the school should look into getting the student special help and I also try to help them out personally as much as I can but I'm only one person. The parents then go to the higher ups and complain about how I choose to neglect certain students.

They also say in the school newsletter that we cater to all students and that we provide help for all types of students and needs. I don't know if they're trying to get more students into the school by saying that so more people put their kids in the school. It's so frustrating and I'm so burnt out in regards to this. I wish parents would stop accusing me of things I'm not doing and leave me alone and go to the right people to get the help that their child needs.
