With all these layoffs and firing of tech workers, what's the logic behind firing people who has AI expertise?

I see news after news of tech companies like facebook, Google and Microsoft laying people off like crazy. But what baffles me is the fact that they're probably firing people with expertise in AI.<br><br>Something doesn't make sense. They're investing millions of dollars into AI and hiring people but they're also firing people in droves. What's the logic behind this?
