I don't remember the last time that I enjoyed an anime as much as I enjoyed older stuff (Toradora, Barakamon, March Comes in Like a Lion, Your Lie in April, A Silent Voice, AnoHana, Nichijou, Made in Abyss, etc).

These days, it feels like most of the highest-profile anime end up being lackluster and disappointing (令和のデカダンス, 100 years of the animator, Ponyo Cliff, Tenki, Cyborg, E3!, Akiba Meido Sensou, Dead Dead Demon, bespoke suit, hellmode, etc).

Even stuff that gets released to widespread critical acclaim tends to leave me disappointed (Demon Slayer, Attack on Titan, JJK, Chainsaw Man, Suzume, One Piece Film Red, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Ranking of Kings, The Dangers in My Heart, etc).

I don't know why, but anime just doesn't feel as good as it used to. Nothing feels like it has any soul or substance to it, and it's just mass-produced trash meant to sell merch or fit into a mold. I don't even think that I've seen an anime from the past 5 years that I would give higher than a 6.
