CMV: Most people don't actually believe God exists

I think most people don't actually believe that God exists, but want to. However, they don't want to admit, either to themselves or other people, that they don't actually believe. I think that TV shows and movies like The Exorcist, The Leftovers, Angels in America, and Touched by an Angel actually do more to make God seem real than churches and prayer do. I think the rate of atheism is increasing because the number of people who actually believe in God is decreasing, and this decrease correlates with the decline in the use of "magical thinking" in the popular media. While some people say that the internet makes it easier for people to express their atheism, I think it should also make it easier for people to express their faith. It seems to me that the internet is filled with more people who are aggressively stating that they don't believe in God than people who are aggressively stating that they do believe in God.

Edit: I have had a few people point out that my username is the title of a song by a Christian band. I am actually an atheist, and my username is intended to be ironic and sarcastic.
