Female Lead in "What IF" Disney movie totally destroyed my hope for the future of women

For those who haven't seen it, what if is a Disney animated movie where they take the classic Disney fairy tale princesses and have them switch roles in "what if" scenarios. For example "what if" Snow White didn't eat the poisoned apple, "what if" Tiana had joined Dr. Facilier instead of fighting him, and so on. The entire movie is designed as a feminist anthem where the female leads are given full agency and power in scenarios where they never would have been in the original Disney movies.

The first thing I noticed when walking into the theater was that it was totally empty except for me and a mom with her three kids, two girls (about 10 years old) and a boy (about 8 years old). I was excited to see such a feminist movie with so many little girls in attendance.

The movie started totally normal until the scene where Tiana goes up against Facilier. One of the little girls shouted "I don't like this version! I want to go home!" And before I could even process what was going on both the mom and the two girls got up and left. The boy didn't want to go but the mom forced him to (I have no idea what he had done wrong).

The next scenario totally destroyed me. The scenario was that Snow White was a full on warrior and the 7 dwarfs were the damsel in distress group. The Evil Queen is a totalitarian government that is rounding up magic users and putting them into concentration camps. The dwarfs were on the run when they were caught by the Queen's men and put into a dungeon. Snow White infiltrated the Queen's castle and started to burn it down, causing chaos and destruction everywhere she went. After she burned the throne room down the Queen was shocked to learn that her main advisor was Snow White undercover.

The happily ever after ending was that the Queen was totally destroyed and the dwarfs were able to live in peace. But nope! totally not what the other little girl wanted. She was totally distraught and started crying "I don't like this version of Snow White! I want to go home!" over and over. For some reason she didn't leave the theater like the others though.

Honestly that totally destroyed me. The hope that I had that the next generation would be better than mine and that the patriarchy would end soon is gone. I have no hope for humanity to ever improve beyond what it currently is. I'm totally defeated.
