How to start worldbuilding?

Hi everyone! I want to start worldbuilding my own world. I am new at this however and have "inherited" a large amount of lore and characters. I don't want to scrap the "inherited" lore but I want to make many changes to it.<br><br>I have noticed that a lot of worldbuilding tips and advice are meant for when you either start building your world from scratch or know a lot about your world. My situation is different however and I am struggling to fit my situation into many worldbuilding tutorials. <br><br>Does anyone have tips on where to start when you have a large amount of lore (you want and don't want) and how to know what I want to do with it? I'm not entirely unfamiliar with worldbuilding but I'm new to this scale and this much inherited lore. It feels totally overwhelming.
