So I was walking down the hallway towards the library when I noticed a man standing outside the library. He looked out of place because it was about 10pm and classes are over by 9ish. He had a backpack on and looked like a typical college student but my training kicked in and I sensed something was off.

I approached him and asked if he was okay or needed help finding something. He said he was lost and looking for a friend. Now all the exterior doors are locked by 6pm so you need your student id to get in. There are cameras everywhere and we would have seen him walk in. But I entertained the idea that he got in with someone who had an id.

I asked for his friends name and where they were supposed to meet up. He said his friends name was Sam and they were supposed to meet at the library at 8. Sam wasn’t his real friends name but that’s what he called him. I asked Sam’s real first and last name and he said Sam hadn’t told him his real name and he just went by Sam. I tried to look up a Sam on our student directory but you need the last name to look someone up. I was like okay that’s strange. Then I asked what Sam looked like and he said he didn’t know. I was like what? You haven’t met Sam in person? And he’s like no but that’s okay. So I’m like listen I need to see your student id. He’s like oh my ids in my locker in my dorm. I said okay well I need to scan your id to verify that you’re a student here. And he’s like my ids in my locker.

I radio my dispatcher and ask if we have any call or a student named Sam and they said no we dont have a Sam. So I tell him he has to leave and he walks towards the stairwell that exits outside. As we’re walking I see the exit sign above the door and next to it is the call box. If someone doesn’t have an id they can contact campus police through the call box and explain they don’t have their id and we’ll let them in. So I’m thinking to myself if this dude really lost and doesn’t have his id he could’ve used the call box. When we get to the door I ask him if he tried calling campus police and he’s like oh yeah I tried but they didn’t let me in. I was like how did you get in here? And he’s like I got in with some other students. So I opened the stairwell door for him and said you need to leave and I’m going to walk you out to make sure you get off campus.

As we’re walking down the stairs I said I’m going to follow you until you get in your car and I’m not leaving until you get off campus. He said okay that’s fine and we kept walking. We got to the bottom of the stairs and walked toward the exit and as soon as we got to the door I opened it and he walked out. As soon as he did a car that was parked in the parking lot just outside the doors turned on the lights and peeled out of the parking lot.

I took down the license plate and radio my dispatcher again and told them what happened. I walked back inside and lost sight of the car but when I radio my coworkers who were driving around campus they said the car sped out of the parking lot and onto the main road. So I reported it to local police and they looked up the tags and it was stolen from someone in another city.

Pretty sure this dude and whoever was in the car were looking to abduct someone. Be careful out there!
