I did my bachelors in economics then MBA in finance. I was crazy excited through both degree programs, made good friends and enjoyed my professors. We had an optimistic view of the future. We learned that Biden won the election in my last semester of my MBA so it was all pretty exciting.

I'm now in a finance job and I still use Instagram to keep in touch with my MBA friends. I have noticed in recent weeks that many of them have deleted their IG accounts. I'm not sure if they did it intentionally to detox from social media or if IG just cancelled their account due to inactivity.

I switched my career to software engineering and I'm studying full time. I'm in an online community on IG of other students and I noticed this week that many students are quitting software engineering. I'm not sure if they are able to get jobs or if they just get discouraged by the intensity of the material.

My take is that we live in a world where people are expected to be super productive, high achieving and constantly learning. The education system and media creates unrealistic expectations about what good opportunities look like. It's frustrating when you finally reach your goal and it's not as good as you had hoped. I'm glad I'm in software engineering now. I love it.
