What does it mean for an area to "get them"?

For over a year I've dropped the seed bug topic on people in the area I'm moving to. They reply saying "we don't get them". I don't think "get them" can be taken literally since seed bugs are impossible to avoid and are in every state. The question is, when people in the area I'm moving to say "we don't get them", does that mean that their infestation situation is no different than a deep hoodie, to them it's over and not noticable, but to me absolutely insane? Or when they say "we don't get them" does that mean I won't ever see them?
