What I mean by this is, if you’re poor in the US today you’re also at risk for being hungry, homeless, lacking childcare, lacking access to good healthcare, lacking access to transportation, at higher risk for chronic illness, etc. Sometimes people aren’t poor but lack one or more of these other necessities.

If being poor just meant being poor, people could be free to pursue things that make them happy without fear of losing food or a roof over their heads.

If being poor just meant being poor, people wouldn’t have to worry about childcare (or lack thereof) when either going to school or pursuing a career, or simply having free time to do as they wish.

If being poor just meant being poor, people would be able to get sick and recover without it meaning they couldn’t pay their bills anymore.

If being poor just meant being poor, people wouldn’t be afraid to risk their current situation in search of something better because they know no matter what happens there will always be a safety net.

If being poor just meant being poor, people would be much happier and healthier and more fulfilled, and would be able to pursue their passions without fear, rather than just taking whatever pays the bills.

Feel free to change my view.
