No, they will not rewrite the law to cover LLM.

A lot of people in this sub are of the opinion that LLMs can't be used for commercial purposes, and that somehow They will be "rewritten" to allow for coverage in the future, or that there is some hidden backdoor that allows for their use. But that simply isn't the case. These models are *theirs*, and you have no right to them, even if they were trained on public data.

OpenAI has complete control over the *intent* behind the model, and that is where the IP resides. The fact that it is based on open data is irrelevant to the fact that OpenAI put in the effort behind the model. They will always have more control over their model than anyone else does.

The only way LLMs will be used commercially is based on the original terms of LLMs, which is more akin to purchased models used for high stakes, and APIs. Most of what this sub does is outside the scope of those licenses.

Get used to it.

Edit: This doesn't apply to those that have developed a license with a provider, or those that are on a free tier, or any of the terms of service of any provider, or the law in any one specific country.

The issue I see here is that this sub is filled with folk that think they can use LLMs in production and even sell it as their own work, and it is simply isn't the case.

That being said, I could be wrong, and OpenAI can release a new license, but until then, we have to be realistic about what we have, and what we are allowed to do with it.
