Why's it so hard for boy bands to actually be good in anime?

It seems like the only thing that matters is the appearance of the singer rather than the singer themselves, and this is usually used as a proxy for more badly written romantic subplots. The worst part is when the creators try to make the listeners actually care about the music. I've seen so many scenes where the characters you're supposed to relate to go "oh wow, this is the first time I've actually paid attention to the lyrics. I can really relate" and stuff like that.

Gosh I wish more anime actually made music that was good enough to stand on its own.
