I’ve been reading articles about how Anime is the cost of living crisis in Japan is killing the Japanese economy (not a direct quote) I’m sure you’ve all heard about this before.

But when I go to MyAnimeList, the top 10 anime of the year are all Japanese. The latest anime to win the Oscar was also Japanese. How can the Japanese economy going down effect these people and these businesses if they’re constantly producing top shelf products?

Also, I realized that I love anime, but I’m not really into movies. When I was a kid I remember that I used to go to the movies every weekend. But as much as I love anime, I wouldn’t spend the money to go watch an anime movie as I could just wait for it to come out digitally. Are the Japanese the same?

If the Japanese don’t want to spend money on their own entertainment, why do they still have a large entertainment industry?

All these questions seem to contradict each other, but I just want to know what the truth is. Is anime bad for the economy or is it just clickbait?
