My brother and I came close to being kidnapped one night at an amusement park.

This happened over 20 years ago, in a time when cell phones didn't exist and certainly not ride share apps.

My older brother and I went to an amusement park called Knott's Berry Farm, in California. Anymore it's called Knott's Scary Farm but back then it was just another amusement park just outside of Los Angeles. My brother and I were both older teenagers and my parents dropped us off to hang out by ourselves and I believe gave us a time to be picked up because it was a weekday and I don't think my parents wanted to wait out in the parking lot. I don't recall if we had money for a taxi to take us home but we did have money for a taxi to take us to the mall and a restaurant where we could wait until my parents came to pick us up.

Well we used our ride money leftover to take a taxi to the mall and had some food at a restaurant. We stayed there as long as we could but the mall ended up closing, leaving us outside. We decided to walk back to a well lit intersection that was just a couple of blocks away and that's when a car pulled up next to us. The driver was acting nice and asked what we were doing out so late. He said we couldn't stay out that late and offered to take us back to his house so we could wait until our parents came to pick us up. I don't know if it was a vibe, but something just hit me as off and I didn't want to go with him so I told him no. I also explained we had money for a cab and could just wait until one came. The driver told us again that we just couldn't stay out there alone at night and kept pushing us to go with him. Each time I would decline and a few times my brother would chime in. We (my brother and I) were both starting to feel weird and I think that's when my brother went across the street. Not to say he didn't believe me, I think he just felt that something was off. The driver finally gave up and drove away. We stayed across the street from each other for I think about 15 or 20 minutes and left when a police car drove by.

Now I don't know what would happen if we did go with him and this is still something that I think about. It's a weird thing when you're convinced that had you done something, your life would have taken a darker turn.
