I was just thinking: instead of having a million fact-checking places like Snopes, why not create an organization where websites can be certified as reputable, like ISO certification.

To get certified, a website must have proven to be reliable for a certain amount of time and be able to prove any claim.

This is explained in-depth in the document you can make public on your website. You can apply for accreditation like ISO but there is an ongoing review to make sure you hold the standards.

Crops and companies also hire people to check that their suppliers are following the relevant standards. These people can report any violation and review is launched. This would be the same.

There would be different levels going from:

I- Someone made a statement about their opinion (level 1)

II- Are reporting someone else’s statement (level 2)

III - Have the information on their own database (level 3)

IV- Have data to support the claim (level 4)

V- Truth is proven by facts, science or explained (level 5)

VI- The truth has been proven by an unbiased third party.

VII- Scientific Truth (level 6)

I have been writing this on and off in a Google doc since 2015 and it is still a draft as it is very complex.

I am interested to know what you think or if you know if this is already done.
