[CMV] The concept of ordering food from a restaurant or a fast food chain and asking them to just “make it healthy” is absurd and ridiculous.

I’m sure that many of you have worked in the food industry before, or possibly currently work in the food industry and a frequent question we get is “can you make it healthy.” My question is what does that even mean? When people order food from a restaurant like Red Lobster and say I want the Alfredo noodles, but make it healthy, I’m not sure what in the world they mean or are asking for. If you order a Big Mac from McDonald’s and say make it healthy, are they asking to just not add the two cheese slices on there? It doesn’t make sense.

I’m not saying that people shouldn’t order food from McDonald’s or Applebee’s just because it’s quote un quote unhealthy or fast food. I think you should be able to eat from wherever you’d like and however you’d like depending on how you want to live your life. The question here is what does it mean to make food healthy.

In my opinion when you order food from a restaurant you can either ask for them to hold something off, substitute something, or modify something. But when you tell them to make it healthy that could mean any of the three things. You could ask for the restaurant to hold something off of the meal, like not adding salt and pepper or possibly holding the cheese or the bacon or holding the sauce that they traditionally serve with the dish, or you could ask them to substitute something in the meal like ordering fettuccini Alfredo, but can you substitute the noodles with a different type of noodle or can you substitute the sauce that you put on the noodles, or you could ask them to modify the way that they cook something or the way that they prepare something. For example, ordering fried pickles, but can you air fry them instead of deep fry them.

My point in all of this is there’s too many different things that can be done to a meal when people ask for it to be made healthy, and I think that if you are ordering out you should be more specific about your requests instead of just asking for it to be made healthier.
