After the collapse of the Byzantine Empire, when did the Balkans stop being referred to as Greece?

There was a period when modern day Greece was locked down by the Ottomans and people that fled were referring to themselves as Greeks. Then in the 19th century the term went away again and the slab states started to form.<br><br>What happened in between? Did the term get phased out by the nation-states?
