I'm American and am traveling to Europe right now. I'm currently in the Berlin airport, where I had a layover. I've never been to Germany before and have only been to a few airports in Europe (Paris, Amsterdam, London, and Italy). I'm shocked at how bad the airport is.

1. Not enough seating at gates. There's literally not enough chairs for everyone to sit down. I sat on a chair only because an elderly person let me sit, but I had to stand and stand for a while.

2. Not enough shops, restaurants or food. It's 7:30 am, and there is only like 3 places to eat, and one or two places to buy snacks. Everything was closed during my layover. If I didn't have snacks, I would have been screwed.

3. No free water. Like wtf? I have to buy water after security?? That's insane. Every airport I go to has free water.

4. Terrible signage. The signage is so confusing. I don't speak German, so everything is confusing, but there's not enough English signage either. The airport is huge, so I had to ask 3 people where my gate was (2 didn't speak English), and then I finally found out where my gate was. Honestly, if I didn't ask, I would have missed my flight.

5. No one speaks English. The airport staff doesn't speak English, and most people don't speak English. I had to play charades to get help. Honestly, I thought Germans all spoke English.

6. With all my negative experiences, it's just the vibe of the airport. No one smiles, and everyone is in a hurry. I asked a German guy for directions (who spoke English) and he told me to get the hell out of his way. Like I'm asking for help wtf.

If you're an American or from English speaking countries, be prepared. The German airports are by far the worst I've been to.
