It’s been the trend for the last decade for anime that are popular to be very grim, dark, and depressing. I think of anime like Takt Op., Inuyashiki, Mirai Nikki, Death Note, Re:Zero, Tokyo Ghoul, Claymore, Overlord, Attack on Titan, Berserk, Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Goblin Slayer, Black Clover, Bleach, Redo of Healer, The Devil is a Part-Timer, Demon Lord Retry, Infinite Dendrogram, Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear, Gurren Lagann, Dorohedoro, Deadman Wonderland, Black Butler, Kill la Kill, Akame ga Kill, Isekai Cheat Magician, Arifureta, MHA and the list goes on and on.

I am working my way through the most popular anime of the last few years and some are definitely better than others, but every one of them are dark as hell, and then I consider the fact that anime is not 100% made for adults. Anime seems to have shifted pretty heavily in this direction. What do you think the reason for this is?
