I had a revelation

I live in a part of the world where I do not have to worry about my right to abort. I know this. I've always known this. But something just came to me like a bolt of lightning, something so fucking clear and really, I have no idea how I had not thought it earlier.

This is not just about abortion. This is about the right to privacy. This is about the right to bodily autonomy. This is about the right to make decisions for yourself. This is about the right to be your own fucking person.

When right-wing men say "we should not be forced to raise our kids if we do not want to", they are right. No man should be. No man should be forced to father and provide for a child he does not want to. And this is why, in my country, we have something called a "male abortion" law. If a man writes a letter to the government saying he does not wish to be the father of the child, he is automatically absolved of all responsibilities regarding said child, and the government will pay said child's mother the same amount of money as she would have received from the child's father, as child support.

But why should a man be forced to carry his child to term? Why should a man not be able to decide whether to abort or not, or if he wants to be a dad? Why should a man be forced to go through the cramped, painful and dangerous process of pregnancy and birth? Why should a man be forced to carry an unwanted baby for NINE MONTHS, just because of some outdated social constructs? Why should a man be forced to risk his life for a baby he does not want?

The answer is, he should not. No man should ever be forced to go through a pregnancy. No man should ever be forced to be a father if he does not want to.

This is why men should not have an opinion on abortion.
