I saw something very strange standing next to my bed last night

I've never seen anything like it. First, I'll tell you that I don't think this was a hallucination. I know that sleep hallucinations are hallucinations that occur at the end of a sleep cycle or beginning of a sleep cycle, but I was already asleep. Unfortunately, there is no other word for this than to call it a "ghost." I just woke up, and was turning over to comfort myself better. Just as I got under my blankets, I saw a tall, white figure out of my peripheral vision. It was too tall to be a person. It wasn't all the way to my ceiling, but was tall enough that its hands were resting on my ceiling. But it was too tall to be a person. There was no light on this figure at all--it was so white that it glowed in the dark. All I could think of was ripping off my covers and running. I did just that, and sped across the room. As I did, I felt a very intense chill ring through my body. I felt cold, even having slept under a blanket. Unfortunately, there was nowhere for me to go. I stood by the door to my room, thinking of all the things it could do to me once I turned my back. But I felt like I wasn't going to be able to stand there forever, so I decided to turn around and look at it. It was still there. It seemed to have moved slightly, but it didn't have its hands on the ceiling anymore. It was right next to my bed. I stood there frozen in terror, and I decided nothing was happening. It didn't charge at me. It didn't try to attack me. It didn't try to scare me. It just stood there. So, I turned my back on it again, and went back to bed. I fell back asleep. But I don't understand why this happened or what it means. I've never had a dream like this before, and it was so vivid. I had more dreams going into the morning of me being chased by these creatures that looked like vampires.
