Why do people hate teachers?

I've been seeing more and more posts of people being upset with teachers or saying we don't care about kids. I'm so confused as to why people think we are horrible and don't like kids. I became a teacher not only to teach academics, but also to be a safe and supportive adult for kids. I know other teachers feel the same way. I love my job and love seeing my students grow and flourish, not only academically, but socially, as well. I have former students reach out to me and tell me that I was the only teacher to truly care about them while they were in school. I've had lunch with former students who were foster kids and are now grown with kids of their own and we're still close. I've had students who were English language learners write me beautiful letters and give me homemade gifts that I still have after 5 years. All of my students know that my door is always open to them and I will always be there for them. I've attended sports events and concerts for my former students just because I want them to know that I care about them as people, not just as students. I've spent my own money to provide food, clothing, and school supplies for students who didn't have enough at home. I've comforted students who have lost a parent or sibling. I've made it a point to learn the name of every single student in my school so that I can greet them by name and make them feel special. I do all of this because I TRULY love kids and I love teaching. I love helping young minds grow and seeing the pride they have in themselves when they accomplish something they thought they couldn't. I don't make a lot of money. I don't get a lot of breaks. I don't get a lot of recognition for what I do. But you know what? I don't care. One smile from a kid on a bad day or one thank you from a student makes all of the hard work worth it for me. So, please, people who think we don't care about kids, try to see things from our perspective. We are a safe haven for so many kids and we TRULY love and care about all of our students.
