I rejected a guy at a concert and had to call in a favor to get away from him

So this happened a few years ago but it’s stuck with me.

I went on a date with a guy from OKCupid, we’ll call him John, and met him at a concert venue in DC. It was opening night for a band that we both really liked and was excited to see, so the date was supposed to just be a friendly thing so we could both enjoy the show without the pressure of a real “date.”

We met outside of the venue and I immediately got weird vibes from him, but I wasn’t willing to stand outside for three hours for a band I loved just on a gut feeling. So we went in and the show was awesome, but things kept getting weirder. John had a huge smirk on his face the whole time, and I started to feel really uncomfortable. After one of the opening bands I told him I was going to the bathroom and instead went up to one of the security guards and asked him if he knew my friend, who worked in the box office for the venue. He said he did, and asked why, and I explained that I was on a date that was going very wrong. He said he would walk me to the box and get me out of there.

I went back to John and said I was leaving, that I wasn’t having a great time, and he asked why. I gave him some bs excuse about not feeling good, and he started arguing with me that I was just trying to leave because I didn’t like him. I said no, and he turned and started walking away. I followed him and said we could still be friends, I just didn’t want to be there anymore, and that I wasn’t trying to hurt his feelings or lead him on. He turned around and said I was lying, that I had been planning on leaving the whole time because I didn’t think he was hot and didn’t want to be seen in front with him.

I was really taken aback, but I said I wasn’t trying to hurt him and I still wanted to be friends.

“Are you going to blow me in the parking lot?”

That was it. I turned around and ran into the first door I saw, which was the box office. My friend was in there, and I told him what had happened. He called the guard I talked to earlier and they escorted John out.

The show was amazing, and I got in free for the rest of the year, but it was still a really creepy night.

John, if you ever come to the 9:30 Club and talk to a girl who then swiftly leaves, she’s probably going to have you escorted out by an awesome staff. Let’s not meet again.
