My friend is a police dispatcher for a city in the US (I won’t specify which for obvious reasons). He’s a great guy to have a conversation with, but the stories he told me, the calls he’s gotten, they haunt me to this day.

Recently, he told me about something that happened at his job.

“Three weeks ago”, he said, “I got a strange call.”

A woman had called in, saying that, “My daughter is missing.” My friend said it was a pretty standard call, and he assured her that help would be on the way shortly. Then, she said something strange, something that stuck with him.

“I think the devil took her.”

My friend paused, before laughing nervously, and saying, “Ma’am, I’m going to send someone over, okay?”

After a few minutes of assuring her that help would be there soon, she hung up. My friend said that he found it very strange, but he didn’t think much of it, as he was preoccupied with other calls at the time.

Then, less than 20 minutes later, he got another call, from a man who said, “I just found a little girl on my property. She was crying and saying that the devil took her.” This call also ended in him hanging up, but my friend was able to write down the address, and send someone over.

When police arrived at the address he gave, they found that the little girl, who was 8 years old, had been sexually assaulted. They also found out that this man had a history of pedophilia and child abuse, and that the little girl lived a few houses down from the man who “found” her. My friend said that this case was very strange to him, as it seemed too good to be true that the man would be caught so easily.

A few more minutes passed before my friend received another strange call. This time, it was a man who seemed very calm, and very collected. Something that immediately stood out to my friend was how calm the man sounded, extremely calm, almost too calm.

“Hi, I just found my daughter on my front porch. I couldn’t see her for some reason, but she was there. She said she was at a park near our house, so I called the police there, and they said they didn’t have her, so... ya.”

My friend said that he immediately became suspicious of the man. He said that the man seemed so nonchalant, and calm about the whole situation. My friend said that when he asked the man what his daughters name was, he replied, “I don’t know... I don’t remember... She was there, she was on my porch.”

My friend said that he tried to get the man to give him his address, so that he could send someone over, but the man kept hanging up the phone, and then calling back, as if he was trying to keep him on the line. Finally, after a few minutes of trying, the man gave my friend his address, before saying “Devil on the outside, devil in my head, devil on my porch, and the devil is my daughter.” Then, he hung up.

My friend immediately sent a car over to the address the man gave, and when they arrived, all they found was a house, with nobody inside, but my friend said that he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off, and that this hadn’t ended yet.

A few hours passed before my friend received another call. This time it was from a frantic woman, who said that her and her daughter had been carjacked. She was crying, and very hysterical, so it took my friend a while to get any information from her, but eventually, he found out that she had been driving home from a park with her 8 year old daughter. They had stopped at a red light, when a man jumped into the car, and took it, with her daughter inside. She said that the man was driving erraticly, and that she wasn’t sure of his location now, as she had lost him. This call immediately stuck out to my friend, as an 8 year old daughter, and a park, were both things that he had heard earlier that night, so he decided to send out an APB for the car, and the man who took it.

The police were looking for this car, and this man for weeks, but my friend said they couldn’t find anything, until one day, a few miles from where the car had been taken, a car matching the description was found, crashed, in a ditch. It had clearly been in an accident, and there was a body inside, but it wasn’t the man, it was the little girl. They never found out what happened to her, but my friend said that the police hired a professional to analyze the crash, and he said that it wasn’t an accident, the man had intentionally crashed the car, and he had been driving very slow when he did. This meant that he had intentionally hurt the little girl, and the police were never able to catch the man who did it, and the little girl is still in the hospital to this day.

So, what happened to this little girl? Why did this man take her? Why did he intentionally crash the car, and hurt her? The police have no leads, and no theories, and the whole case just creeps me out to this day.

My friend said that this has been stuck in his head for so long, and that he will probably always remember this story, and how strange it was.
