I broke a kid’s phone and I’m in big trouble

I am a high school English teacher. I have 30-40 kids in each of my six classes and we have a no phone rule in class. The kids that refuse to put their phones away get them taken up. Usually kids will grudgingly put their phones away before that happens. But I had one kid refuse to do so today. When I walked towards him to take it up, he told me to “get the f- out of his face” and wouldn’t give it up. I reached out and he jumped out of his seat, I lost my balance and my hand that was extended for the phone fell onto the phone, sending it to the ground. He screamed at me, refused to settle down and was eventually sent to the principal. I told the principal what happened and I am now being investigated by the district. The kid has already told multiple other teachers he’s going to get me fired because he’s going to lie and say I purposefully slammed my fist down onto his phone when he was just working on it. I am not sure where to go from here. I have never had a problem with this stuff before because like I said, kids usually put their phones away when you approach them. Any advice would be appreciated.

TL;DR I broke a kid’s phone when he told me to “get the f- out of his face” and refused to put it up. I don’t know what to do.
