YouTube (and the Internet as a whole) was much better when people were creating content as a hobby instead of a "job"

Everyone says "Oh you can tell when a creator loves what they do, and it stops being fun when it's a job". But what makes them think they're an exception?

The-pressure-to-consistently-make-content, the pressure to get views, the pressure-to-keep-your-audience-happy creeps in slowly and then one day you just another cookie-cutter corporate spambot "content creator" pumping out clickbait and accepting "sponsorships" from Microsoft and Apple. It's not fun anymore, and you're not a personal little blog anymore.

This is why I subscribe to a lot of smaller channels, like channels with 5k subs, where if you comment the creator will usually respond. It's not a job, just a hobby, and it's a lot more personal. Not some pretentious, ego-fueled clone-of-a-TV-show channel run by someone who quit their job and now is just a puppet for their sponsors.
