What was the attitude towards POC in the 70s?

I've heard horror stories from my grandma (a white woman) about walking down the street in the 70s and seeing the shoulders and heads of black men stuck between glass panes. And I'm certain a lot of you have heard these "mistreatment" stories as well. I'm a young POC that has been alive for less than 30 years and my experience is completely different, but I've been wondering about what actually happened. I've heard these stories from a lot of my family members and they've never quite painted the rosiest picture of white people. I've been treated well by white people as a POC but I'm still curious.<br>Resource link would be greatly appreciated :)
