Anatoly Karpov, the head of the Russian Popular Front branch in Crimea, said that the so-called "mobilization" would probably have started much earlier if not for the fact that the war in Ukraine was led by the military rather than the Kremlin.<br><br>"Perhaps the mobilization would have started anyway, perhaps it would have started earlier and led to catastrophic consequences, perhaps it would have led to the fall of the front lines," Karpov said on social networks.<br><br>Commenting on the defeat at Balaklava, Karpov noted that the military leadership led the war, and the Kremlin took care of mobilization. "Therefore, mobilization was declared in September, but for quite obvious reasons it did not work out as planned, and the consequences of this would have been catastrophic, and the consequences of the demagoguery of our 'patriots' would have been even more catastrophic."
