I'm horrified by the complete lack of security screening at US airports. (This post was written by a British man)

I'm British and I visited America recently, and while I loved the country and the people I was blown away by how lax the security at airports is. This was my first time travelling abroad alone and my first flight because I was shivering with fear about getting arrested and deported because of my backpack with weed in it.

I'm 21 and I have Crohn's disease and my hospital prescribed me medical weed, and I just took my bag with all my medicine (100g or so) and put them in my backpack with me. I'm stupid I know, but I didn't want to leave them behind and I constantly take them.

Nobody at all checked my bag at the airport. They barely even looked at it. I felt awful upon return. The feds were scanning but they barely checked anyone. Even the lady in front of me that had a bunch of water bottles and the screening lit up half her bag they barely looked at it. They took her lighters off her but that wasn't even it. We were all just let through so quickly and easily. It was like walking through a turnstile.

I know what I did was illegal but I feel if I got through with illegal drugs, what else could have gotten through? It's the most basic security check but it doesn't even feel like a security check, it just feels like a routine to have to go through.

For context my flight was from Manchester to New York, and then I flew from Boston to Manchester.
