Can someone tell me what's happening? I don't understand

I've been here in Lithuania for a couple of years now as an English teacher. It's been a lovely experience so far , the people, culture, food and everything. I want to love Lithuania but it's hard to do so when I read the posts on this page. Mandatory military service, oppressive government and all other things that seem like there is no freedom at all.<br><br>Please inform me about this situation as I had no idea that this was happening while I've been living here.<br><br>Also I'm not an English speaker so please excuse any mistakes you may find.<br><br>Thanks
