I just got a restraining order while 7 months pregnant

I just wanted to share my story for people who may be in a similar situation. The patriarchy is telling me women are too weak to defend themselves, but not today.<br><br>A year ago I filed for divorce, and my ex husband just didn’t care about anyone but himself. He didn’t pay child support, didn’t even try to find a job, and was violent and threatening towards me and my 3 month old child. I broke up with him almost 2 years ago, but his attitude has gotten worse and worse. He would send me death threats regularly, and break into my house to steal my stuff. <br><br>I’m 7 months pregnant with our second child, and I’ve had enough. I finally got the courage to file for a restraining order, and I’m so glad I did. I was worried I wouldn’t find the time as a single parent of a 1 year old, but I took care of the paperwork on the weekend, while juggling a demanding remote job and being sick with a cold. It felt empowering and amazing to take action, and I’m glad I did.<br><br>The judge granted my restraining order, and today my ex was served. And I’m so glad I did. I was worried I wouldn’t find the time as a single parent of a 1 year old.<br><br>I just wanted to share my story for people who may be in a similar situation. I am in the middle of a divorce, and my ex was regularly threatening to kill me. I took action, and feel so empowered and safe today. <br><br>Even though women are socialized to be afraid, we are strong and capable. We need to take action to protect ourselves, because no one else will. <br><br>And to anyone who may be thinking of doing something like this themselves, just keep going. It’s worth it to get out of the situation and protect yourself and your children. But be careful, and think carefully about planning ahead and staying safe. <br><br>I’m feeling empowered and glad I took action, but the patriarchy is still winning when women are forced to be scared of domestic violence. But not today.
