Someone has been leaving terrifying notes around my house

It was a typical day when it started. I was getting ready for work, aiming to get out the door and grab some breakfast on the way. I opened the fridge to make sure I hadn't forgotten to throw out any leftovers during the week. That's when I saw it. A folded green post-it note sat flat on top of a Tupperware container. I could see scribbles on it, but it was upside down so I couldn't read it. I picked up the note and read:

They're in the walls. They're watching. Don't talk to them. Don't listen.

I flipped the note over, thinking that maybe it was a sticky side up, but there was no adhesive. It was as if I had faillessly placed it on top of my leftover chicken. I thought it was strange, but assumed maybe I had left it there myself and forgotten. I'm a very anxious person and sometimes I have small panic attacks by myself, so maybe I wrote it as a reminder to try to calm myself down. I didn't think too much of it and threw it away, continuing on with my day.

It wasn't until I was brushing my teeth for bed that night that I found the second note. This one was on the mirror in the same green color as the first. The handwriting was the same as well. This note was a little shorter and said:

They know your name

Again, I thought it was weird, but dismissed it as a dumb thing I had done. I took this note and threw it in the garbage on top of the first one. The next morning, however, was different. I work out in the mornings before work and running, and when I opened my gym bag to pull out my running shoes, two green post-it notes were stuck to the bottom of one of my shoes. The first one said:

Don't run from it

The second note said:

They run faster than you

Now I was getting a little spooked. It was so weird and I knew I didn't write these. They were so simple, yet made me feel terrified. What were they talking about? I decided to ask my girlfriend, Rachel, about them when she got home from work. I showed them all to her and she was equally as weirded out by them. We have a housemate, Jim, and we asked him if he had written them. He was equally as confused. We chalked it up to maybe someone from our office playing a prank and getting locked into our house somehow, or maybe it was one of our Roommate's friends visiting. I tried to continue on with my day as usual.

The next morning, while making some coffee, I noticed one of the notes on the side of the coffee maker. This one said:

You can't dodge it

I was officially spooked. I showed it to Rachel and we decided to set up cameras in case someone was breaking in. We are in a fairly safe neighborhood and I couldn't think of anyone that would play a prank like this. The next morning, I found two notes. One on the side of the sink basin and the other under my toothbrush. The first note said:

They're in the water

And the second said:

They're in your mouth

I was really starting to get creeped out by these notes. I showed Rachel and we both agreed that something weird was going on. We reviewed our camera footage and saw that it was just the usual cars driving by and people walking their dogs. I gave a copy of the keys to a friend and asked him to stop by and check on the house periodically while we were away. We figured that maybe it was someone in the neighborhood that had a key and was running inside and leaving a note before leaving.

The next morning there was no note. I was hoping that maybe giving a key to a friend had spooked whoever it was and they would leave me alone. I was wrong. When I opened my lunch at work there was a note. This one said:

Make it last

I was so creeped out by it. I had never even given a key to anyone at work. Who could this possibly be? I told Rachel what had happened and we decided that one of us needed to stay home that night and wait for whoever it was. We told Jim what was going on and he agreed to stay home that night as well. Rachel and I switched cars and I drove hers home. I parked a few houses down and snuck into our backyard. I was surprised that neither of the motion activated outdoor lights turned on. I opened the back door, which was locked, and let myself in. Rachel and Jim were waiting in the living room for me. We waited until around 11:00 PM and fell asleep.

I woke up to the sound of Rachel crying. I looked over at her, confused, and she waved a green post-it note in my face. This one said:

Come and get me. Wait for me. I love you.

I was so creeped out by this one. It hit me a little too close to home. It was the first time I really thought that whoever was doing this might actually know Rachel and was trying to communicate with her. She was crying so I just held her and waited for her to stop. Once she did I went to the kitchen to make some coffee. That's when I saw another note hanging from one of the cabinets. It said:

You can't protect her

That was it for me. I didn't care who it was anymore. This was getting too personal. I grabbed my car keys and ran out the door to go stay at a friend's house for the night. I whispered to Rachel that I was leaving and went on my way. I drove back to my friend's house, who was also my workout buddy in the mornings. I showed him all the notes and asked if I could stay the night. He agreed and we talked about the situation until we fell asleep.

The next morning I got a text from Rachel asking where I was and why I left. I told her that I was scared and I couldn't stay there anymore. She became very angry with me and asked what kind of boyfriend I was to abandon her when she needed someone the most. I told her I was just protecting myself. She said:

"You can't protect yourself. They're in the walls. They're watching. Don't talk to them. Don't listen."

My heart sank. It was then that I realized that Rachel was the one leaving the notes around. I texted her back, acting like everything was normal, and told her I was going to work. I called my mom and told her what was going on. She agreed to meet me at a park and pick me up. I couldn't stay at my house anymore. When my mom picked me up, I showed her all the notes and told her the story. She agreed that something was wrong and took me to her house. I texted Rachel periodically throughout the day and told her I had the flu. That night, I called her and we talked about the notes. She said it was probably one of our housemate's friends and asked me how my day at work was. I told her it was fine and we said love you and hung up.

I stay with my mom and don't plan on going back to that house. I've agreed not to press charges on Rachel as long as she seeks help. I'm not really sure what's going on with her, but I do know that the last time we talked, she told me to:

Make it last.
