The Star Wars prequels are without a doubt a commercial success but the star wars prequels are hated by the community and failed to reach the standard set by the original trilogy. For the most part I think the story was fine and the characters were interesting enough to be likable and for the most part the acting was decent and for the most part it got the story across without too many holes. The new trilogy is a better example of this. The Force Awakens was a rehash of the first with a few new characters and very little story. The Last Jedi thought it was a good idea to have a long chase scene that lasted the entirety of the movie and then had some 15 minute fan service segment in the middle and then The Rise of Skywalker was just a bunch of fanservice with a very basic story. The characters in the new trilogy were much more shallow than in the prequels too. Rey gets a lightsaber and boom instant Jedi. Kylo Ren is much more whinny than Anakin and Anakin actually does some shit along the way. Even the unused characters of the prequels are much more interesting than the new trilogy. The prequels had a lot characters that didn't have much screen time or even didn't even have their characters actually appear on screen. I also don't get the hate Jar Jar got. Sure the character sucked but a lot of the characters were annoying but Jar Jar at least had some actual funny moments. Overall I think the prequels were creative successes with a lot of interesting characters but just didn't translate well on to the screen. Maybe some day we'll get a remake of the prequels and hopefully they deliver the way the original trilogy did.
