I’ve met my doppelganger multiple times, but he doesn’t seem human.

I’ve met my doppelganger several times.

Once I was about 6 or 7 and was sitting in the back seat of my mothers car. My mom stopped at a stoplight at an intersection and I looked over at the car to our right. It was a man with a young boy about my age in the backseat. The boy had the same short sandy blonde hair I did, and he was even younger than I was. He even wore glasses with black frames, just like mine. He stared at me and I stared back. He looked just like me. I looked up at his dad and saw that the resemblance was uncanny, him and my mom were look alikes. Same short sandy hair, same nose shape, some glasses, and same smile. I looked at him and waved, he waved back, but I could see something was off. As kids do, I waved again, and he mimicked. His eyes had no joy, no life, just a cold stare. I wanted to stare more, but the light turned green and they sped away before my mom even moved. She looked at me in the rear view mirror and asked what was wrong, I told her I saw a boy that looked like me. She just looked confused but smiled and said it was probably a coincidence. I still think about that day. I wonder if that boy was like me, or if he was also just mimicking.

The next time I saw him was when I was 13. My mom took me to the mall to get some lunch at the food court. As we walked past a store I noticed a man and a boy standing at the mannequin window looking at it, not each other. The man had sandy hair, glasses, and a similar smile. The boy had all the same facial features as I did, but his sandy hair was messy in a way I couldn’t replicate. They were staring at the mannequin and didn’t notice me. They were both wearing the same outfits that the mannequin was wearing. They stayed there, silent, staring at the mannequin. I tugged on my moms coat and asked her if she noticed anything strange. She told me to stop being rude and walked away. I looked back at the man and boy, and they were still there. They didn’t look at me, even after I pointed it out, they just kept staring at the mannequin. I didn’t think about asking them questions because something about them just didn’t seem right. I still think about that day, and I’m sure of it, that boy was not like me.

That was years ago, and I never saw them again. I sometimes wonder if I’d see them again, and I do, occasionally. I’ve seen the man after that, at my college, at the grocery store. They were always acting strange. Always mimicking the people around them. Always watching.

I’m 22 years old now, and I live alone. I work at a local restaurant as a waiter. Yesterday I had a table of two men, one with sandy hair and glasses, the other a young boy who looked like me. They sat silent. They wore matching black and white outfits. They ordered water, and that was it. I came back several times, but they didn’t say anything. The man mimicked every movement I did, even if it was just scratching my ear. The boy just stared off into space, he didn’t mimic, but he stared as if he was trying to mimic me at an earlier age. I wanted to say something, but something was so off about them that I knew I had to get out of there as quickly as I could. I told my manager about it and he said he’d never seen anything like it. He said he’d take the table and tell them to leave. I went back to the kitchen to tell the cook to stop making their food, but when I came back to check on them, they were gone. My manager told me that they didn’t order food, but the boy kept talking about how nice the food smelled and how bad he wanted to eat. The man tried to shush him, but he kept talking. They kept talking about how nice the food smelled until they left. They left a $20 on the table and a piece of paper that said.

“We are watching.”

I don’t know what to do.
