Let's imagine that human societies have never known the concept of male and female. Nobody knows that there are two sexes: men and women. There is no such thing as a gender binary, and the distinction between masculine and feminine is non-existent. In this hypothetical scenario, how would our society, laws, and norms of behavior change?

Would equal rights be the default, or would people be given generically male or female rights? Or would men and women have equal rights and people who are neither would be oppressed?
