My boyfriend said something really insensitive to me yesterday because "he was just joking around".

He's been doing this more and more lately. I know he thinks he's being funny but most of the time it's just really mean.

He called me a English Bulldog puppy that was waddling on the sidewalk an insult. It hurt my feelings. I don't expect everyone to find me attractive but I don't know why my own boyfriend would tell me I look like a dog that's "supposed to look cute" but it's really just an ugly dog.

I told him that was really mean and he denied saying it. He said "I was just joking!" And I was like, well it wasn't funny at all. I never know when he's messing with me because he always denies saying something mean. He's also made comments about my weight but then laughed when I called him on it and said "I was just kidding!"

He always says things in this really passive-aggressive way. Like he'll say things that he knows hurt my feelings then say, "I was just kidding! Don't be so sensitive."

I just feel like if you're going to make a comment that's hurtful, you should just own up to it and not pretend like you didn't say it. He's also made comments to people I've known for years and hurt their feelings and then says "my jokes are just lost on you."

I don't know if he's trying to make himself feel better or me feel better when he says things like that. It makes him look like a liar and it makes me feel stupid for calling him out on it.
