If you're gonna talk to an elderly person in a supermarket, just say "hello", "hi" or "hi, how are you?" - LPT

When I was a young teenager I worked at a supermarket, and it was the first place where I really got annoyed by a lot of customers, but especially by the elderly, who would go into long conversations with me, asking for all sorts of personal info, which I had no interest in sharing.

So, after years of that, I just changed my strategy. When I had time to chat I would just say something very short and polite like "hello" or "hi" - that way, they get to feel important and I can continue to do my work without having to spend 5 minutes in a conversation I don't even enjoy.
