Im a veteran store manager for a retail chain and these are some tips

Hi, im a manager for a large retail chain who has been with them for over a decade. I have caught and turned in several people for shoplifting. im also sure that there are plenty who have gotten away. i have taken this sub for educational purposes and have compiled a list of tips in case you are ever in a situation like this. <br><br><br>1-Wear clothes that are easy to run in. I have caught several people in the past who wore heels or boots and were unable to run in them. You could have gotten away but your dumb fashion sense is what caught you. <br><br><br>2-Learn to pick locks. We lock up high valued items in our store and have caught several lifters who would have otherwise gotten away if they could just pick the lock. <br><br><br>3-Keep your earbuds out. If you have your ears bud in you wont be able to hear us come up behind you. A lot of the times we will try to scare you by being loud when we approach. <br><br><br>4-If you drive up in a lifted truck or shiny car and walk in wearing a Gucci coat you are automatically being watched. A lot of people who walk in like this do not have the means for such items so we naturally watch you more. <br><br><br>5-Some cameras are fake. Ive seen several post of people using lasers to count the cameras in a store. Some of those cameras are fake and dont even work. <br><br><br>6-If the sensor beeps at the door dont panic. We usually wont stop you at the door. we will follow you outside and confront you. A lot of people panic when the alarm beeps and try to run because they are already guaranteed to get caught. <br><br><br>7-Phoney phone calls work. We get alot of prank calls about bomb threats or robbery's and we take them all seriously. Depending on the threat, we will either lock down the store or evacuate everyone. <br><br><br>8-Watch where you park. I have people who park in our parking lot and walk over to the next store. im watching you already because of the store you drove into. <br><br><br>9-If i approach you just be nice and answer my questions. A lot of the times im just checking to see if you're stealing and if you answer all of my questions without getting angry im more inclined to just let you go about your day. <br><br><br>10-Hide your tattoos. Ive seen several people with tattoos of things that are related to stealing. for instance, i once caught someone with a tattoo of a bandit with the words "on the run" written above it. Needless to say i approached him as soon as he walked in. <br><br><br>11-Once a liar, always a liar. If i catch you lying to me about anything there is a good chance that i will follow you the rest of the time that you are in my store. <br><br><br>12-If you can afford it dont do it. I have caught several people who were just trying it out because they saw people on youtube do it. If you can afford to purchase the items please dont try to steal. it can have long lasting repercussions on your life.
