I was alone in my apartment one night and had a very strange man in the building ask me to let him in my apartment to watch television

This happened in mid February one night when I was home alone and had just gotten out of the shower. I live on the top floor in one of those “garden” apartments where the front door actually opens into a hallway that leads to the kitchen. It’s not your typical apartment where the front door is in the living room.

I had just gotten out of the shower and it was quiet and had just gotten dark outside. I was maybe about 20 feet away from the front door. Then I heard the door to the stairwell open and slam shut, signaling that someone had just walked in. Then immediately after about 5 seconds later the door to my apartment starts opening. Like it had just swung open.

I freaked out and grabbed the nearest thing I could which was a big bottle of mouthwash that I had just gotten out of the bathroom with and I was like WFT. I thought maybe the door had come unlocked but I was positive that I had locked it. Obviously someone had a key. Anyways this guy walks in and to my surprise it was one of my neighbors who lives on the first floor with his mom.

I had never met him before because he was at work most of the time and I was in school so our schedules didn’t really align but I would always see him out in the parking lot when he would get home from work around 9pm. I had always said hi but really didn’t’ know anything about him aside from the fact that he lived in the building. Anyways he just kind of walked in and was like “hi” and I’m standing there like WFT with my bottle of mouthwash. So I asked him what he was doing and he said he just wanted to watch television. I was like ok this is super weird but I can try to be nice.

Obviously he had a key to my apartment. I asked him why he had a key and he said that his mom was the landlord for the building. I couldn’t believe it. I rent this place and pay them rent so they shouldn’t’ have a key. Unless they’re trying to break in. Anyways he just proceeds to sit on my couch and turn on the TV and starts flipping through channels like he’s at home or something. I’m standing there frozen with my mouthwash like what the F is going on.

I’m so frustrated and I have no idea what to do. I’ve never had this happen to me before. My instincts tell me to get him the hell out of my apartment because something isn’t right. I don’t trust him but at the same time I don’t want to piss off my landlord because I don’t want to be homeless or move out. So then I asked him where his mom was and he said she was in Florida. So now what?

So I’m standing there frozen not moving or saying anything and he’s just sitting on my couch flipping through channels and then I walk around the couch to get to the TV to turn it off and he’s like “hey what are you doing” and I said I’m turning off the TV so you can leave. I just went and stood by the door with the bottle of mouthwash and looked at him and told him to leave and he’s still just sitting on the couch looking at me like what the hell is wrong with this girl.

Finally he gets up and walks out the door and I slammed and locked the door behind him and put my ear to the door to see if he was still out there. I heard him walk down the stairs and I felt like I could finally breathe again. I called the police and they came and said to get a restraining order but nothing came of it. Also turns out his mom is not the landlord. She doesn’t even work for the company.

Also I looked up his mom’s name and found his facebook page and his profile picture is literally a picture of him in a bathtub drinking a beer. I can’t even make this up. I was so creeped out. Anyways I had maintenance come over and change my locks and everything is good now. But what the hell was that all about?
