I work for a company right next to a city bus terminal, so I decided to take the bus. I’m going to school in the mornings and I’m working in the afternoons, so I was spending 6 hours a day just on transportation alone, and the bus ticket costs $95/month which I can’t afford.

About 3/4 of the way home is a coding bootcamp that is literally right next to a bus stop, and they let you use their facilities for free on weekends if you audit any of their classes on weekdays. So I basically didn’t lose any time by doing the commute this way. The bus ticket’s also $60/month instead of $95/month because I’m taking a shorter route. I ended up saving $35/month over the long term just because I decided to change my route and I’m developing a skill that I can use in the future.

(Also I’m no longer stuck at home with nothing to do, and I have a place to go on weekends when I need a change of environment. So that’s a plus too.)
