LPT: When using a public restroom, if you see a pen/pencil/nail pen attached to the wall, take it. You never know when you'll need it.

If it's unattached, pick it up and put it in your pocket. If it's clipped to the wall, carefully take it down.

I've been carrying a nail pen on my keys for a decade now. I got it at the gas station before a long road trip.

I've used it to pick paint at the hardware store, sign receipts, fill out forms, and as a makeshift stylus for my tablet.

If you already carry a pen, ignore this. But if you don't, you might as well take the free one that's waiting for you at the first gas station or public restroom you come across.

I have two trolleys full of items to post and I need a break so I'll try to make this as detailed as possible.

I'm an office worker.

1.) Sign receipts

I have a store account with a local electronics store. They give me 5% off all orders and let me pay with my credit card once a month.

Every receipt is signed by a manager. It would be more convenient if mine wasn't. I can just use my nail pen and scribble on the bottom of the receipt. The manager can then check that box at the end of the day that says all receipts were signed.

I've seen cashiers use their pens to sign receipts and I don't get it.

2.) Fill out forms

There's been several times at work I needed to fill out a form and I didn't have my pen.

I was on a project once that required me to buy several items at the time. I needed to print off receipts and fill out a form to include with my expense report.

I had to borrow a pen from my manager but it was a little hard to read. My handwriting is terrible. I ended up using my nail pen to sign my name, fill out my email, and write down the items I bought.

I got home and my coworkers asked if I had filled it out. I said no, I used my nail pen to write the receipt out by hand. They were all impressed and wanted one too.

3.) Picking paint

I bought a new house and the previous owner didn't include any paint colors.

I was at the paint store and saw a paint sample on the wall. I asked the woman at the counter what the color was and she said she didn't know. I asked her how she signs her receipts and she used a Sharpie. She told me I could use the Sharpie to see what the color was like.

I told her I had a nail pen and I could use that to read the Sharpie. She said I was crazy and I should use my fingers instead.

I told her that was a horrible idea and I'm glad I have a nail pen.

The point is that sometimes the only way to read something is with a nail pen. If you don't carry one, you'll never know.

4.) As a stylus

I'm sorry this gets so detailed. I don't have any pictures to back it up.

I'm in the process of buying a house.

I'm doing a lot of work on it and need to tap on things. The problem is I'm a girl and don't want to ruin my nail polish.

I'm also afraid of breaking my phone.

So what do I do? I use my nail pen as a stylus!

I've also used it to wipe away sweat from my forehead, pick my nose, and mark things that I want to do later.

I have a picture from the gym that I want to post but it's on my personal phone so I'll add it to the list and I'll post it when I get around to it.

6.) Fill out the kiosk at Target

I'm sorry. I don't know what they're called.

You go to Target and you use the self checkout. At the end there's this thing you need to touch that says yes/no. You do this because Target wants you to sign up for the Red Card and the survey.

The problem is, I don't want to do either. So I use my nail pen to touch it and it works. I know this is a bad thing and I should be punished but I don't want to sign up for anything.

7.) Picking up my mail

I'm sorry. I don't know how to describe this.

I was at the post office and I needed to pick up my mail. There were three people in front of me and each one was signing their name with their finger. It was really hard to read.

I got closer and I saw this white board that was blank.

I asked the lady behind the counter if I could write on it and she said yes. I used my nail pen to write my name and then I was able to pick up my mail.

The lady was impressed and asked if I had a nail pen. I said yes. She said I was a genius and she wished she had one. I told her she could have one if I had a spare and she said I could keep it.

8.) Paying at the coffee shop

I'm sorry. I don't know how to describe this. I've only done this once.

I was at a coffee shop and I didn't have my pen. I was asked to sign the receipt. I didn't want to use my finger again. I looked down and saw that they had a white board that was used to write down orders.

I asked if I could write on it with my nail pen. I was allowed to and I signed the receipt. I was given my change and the receipt.

I don't know why they couldn't just have a pen on hand. I hope they have one now.

9.) Buying a house

My brother is in the process of buying his first home. He was at the bank and didn't have his pen to sign his name. He used a nail pen to sign and now it's his.

10.) Signing legal documents

I've used this on several occasions.

My ex and I were getting a divorce.

He wanted me to sign a few things and didn't have a pen.

I asked if he wanted to fight for it in court and he said no.

I let him use my nail pen and he signed the documents.

I've had to sign things for my mother and it works the same way.

11.) Sign receipts at the liquor store

I buy a lot of liquor.

I always get a receipt but it's signed by a manager.

I asked him if I could just have a blank one and he said no. I told him I could just use my nail pen. He said that was a great idea and now I always get a blank receipt.

12.) Sign receipts at the hospital

I don't know why they sign these but they do. I have several times.

I asked my doctor if I could just sign it and she said no. I told her I could use my nail pen. She said that's a great idea.

I think that's it.
